(WEST PALM BEACH, FL) — The film line-up was announced today by Commissioner Burt Aaronson and Executive Director Randi Emerman for the 8th Annual Palm Beach International Film Festival. The newly-competitive festival will offer a diverse selection of films, documentaries, and shorts, including 8 World Premiere Features, 2 U.S. Premieres and many Florida Premieres.

"To celebrate this terrific film festival's 8th year, we have put together a program of highprofile, quality films which is designed primarily to entertain, but will also hopefully enlighten and educate viewers to the many talented, visionary filmmaking voices on display from all over the world."

To date, those scheduled to be honored at this year's Gala include: Oscar nominee Adrien Brody, who will be awarded the Outstanding Performance of the Year Award for his electrifying portrayal of Wladyslaw Szpilman in "The Pianist"; Producer/actor/writer Robert Evans, responsible for such films as, "Chinatown" and "Marathon Man" and recent hit, "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days" and "The Kid Stays in the Picture," will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award; and producer/writer/director Suzanne DeLaurentiis will be awarded the Commissioner Burt Aaronson Founder's Award. The Gala, which takes place Saturday night, will be hosted by actress Laura Elena Harring ("Mulholland Drive") and "Good Morning America" correspondent, Alex Cambert. The Awards Gala will take place at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, FL.

The Opening Night Film will be "The Kid Stays in the Picture", an autobiographical documentary written by legendary producer/writer/director Robert Evans. Writers Robert Evans and Brett Morgen are scheduled to attend.

The Closing Night Film will be Alan Rudolph's "The Secret Lives of Dentists" starring Campbell Scott, Hope Davis and Denis Leary. Director Alan Rudolph is scheduled to attend.

Special events include special screenings of "The Pianist," followed by a Q&A with Oscar nominee Adrien Brody and a special presentation of the short "A Ribbon of Dreams" with the film classic "Flower Drum Song" both starring James Shigeta who will attend for a film discussion. Actor Robert Davi will be in attendance promoting his film "Hitters" and will also be a presenter at the Awards Gala. On Monday, April 7, PBIFF will present the Student Showcase of Films, honoring the student filmmakers and celebrating the artistic successes they have achieved in this field. The PBIFF is pleased to spotlight the talent of our youth and considers this investment in our future filmmakers to be one of the most important features of the PBIFF.

Other exciting activities include the Outdoor Movie at Old School Square, featuring an encore presentation of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". On Wednesday, PBIFF is having a Beach Party at Canopy Palms Hotel on Singer Island.

As a part of the on-going effort to raise the Palm Beach International Film Festival to a new level, some of the films will have a chance to compete for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor/Actress, Best Screenplay and Audience Favorite.
