In this 1961 classic, a traditional young Chinese woman travels to San Francisco from Hong Kong to fulfill an arranged marriage. The problem is that her prospective husband, an up-to-date, Westernized Asian-American nightclub owner, has other plans, including his romance with a singer. When the film adaptation was released, it became the first major Hollywood studio film about and starring Asian Americans. Flower Drum Song will show with A Ribbon of Dreams, a short also starring James Shigeta.
