MAJOR HOLLYWOOD FILM STARS TO ATTEND PALM BEACH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL



W. Palm Beach, March 4: During an 11:00am press conference this morning, Commissioner Burt Aaronson announced the film celebrities to be honored at the Awards Gala during this year¹s Palm Beach International Film Festival. Celebrities will include: Edward Norton, star of such films as PRIMAL FEAR, KEEPING THE FAITH, FIGHT CLUB and THE SCORE; Brett Ratner, director of RUSH HOUR, RUSH HOUR 2 and recently completed RED DRAGON, the prequel to SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and HANNIBAL; James Whitmore, whose body of works include BATTLE CRY, ASPHALT JUNGLE, KISS ME KATE and most recently seen in SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and THE MAJESTIC; and last but certainly not least...Academy Award Winner for his role in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS...Anthony Hopkins. Commissioner Aaronson said "these very special guests are lending their support to the festival and its mission: to help build the future filmmakers of tomorrow. Net proceeds benefit film programs within Palm Beach County Schools."

Bob Nichols, Festival Board Member, was also present and spoke about the importance of Student Showcase of films and commented that it was crucial that the program continue to grow due to the positive outcome it has for students who submit their entries.

Film Commissioner of Palm Beach County, Chuck Elderd, discussed the new Digital Cinema Showcase calling it "a visionary approach for the festival." The Film Commissioner believes that introducing alternative production resources and featuring films utilizing this technology will increase the interest of "story telling" among our young people today.

Randi Emerman, Executive Director of the Palm Beach International Film Festival, fielded questions with regard to films and theaters. Randi announced "there will be over 40 films featured including American Independent, Spanish language films, as well as films from France, Israel, the Ukraine, Italy and for the first time large format film will be included. Digital format films, the newest film technology, will be featured at Palm Beach Community College." Randi concluded that the festival this year will be held at 6 theater venues providing greater opportunity for filmgoers to attend the festival showings of films. The theaters are Regal Shadowood 18 in Boca Raton, Regal Delray 18 in Delray Beach, Regal Royal Palm Beach 18 in Wellington, Carefree Cinema in West Palm Beach and Crown Abacoa in Jupiter and Palm Beach Community College in Palm Beach Gardens.

The festival continues to make Palm Beach County a world class outlet for filmmakers, providing the community with film seminars and an array of films that may not otherwise be available here.

The 7th Annual Palm Beach International Film Festival will take place April 11-18, 2002.
