Moonshine To The Finish Line: The Unofficial Beginnings of NASCAR |
|
American stock car racing today is corporate and highly sanitized. Racing began with the advent of Prohibition. Moonshiners sped illegal whiskey through the back woods, sirens and gunfire left in their dust. Drivers played outrageous pranks, partied hard, and drove planes, trains, and automobiles with extreme results, on and off the track. The early days of the sport, and the men and women at its heart, have largely been forgotten. “Moonshine” distills the spirit of those days and tells the story of the people who turned a weekend good time into America’s second-biggest sport – warts, whiskey, and all. |
