Skin
Spanning the last 30 years of South Africa's apartheid system, SKIN is based on the extraordinary true story of Sandra Laing (Sophie Okenodo), who was born black to two white Afrikaner parents, unaware of their black ancestry. She grows up in a sheltered environment on a rural farm, loved and nurtured by her father (Sam Neill) and mother (Alice Krige). Reality sets in when she is thrown out of the all-white boarding school her brother also attends, and is reclassified by the state as 'coloured': Sandra will not have the same opportunities as everyone else in her family. Her parents immediately seek to have her legally classified 'white' again, setting in motion a battle that ultimately gives Sandra the strength and self-awareness to embrace her identity and cultural legacy as an African woman. Directed by Anthony Fabian, SKIN stars Sophie Okenodo, Sam Neill and Alice Krige.
